I'm in agreement with Ron, above. I click on the links that sound interesting to me. Or even find some of the same links as threads I've already seen and have to catch up on. I think it is a great feature, and now I will have to reinvestigate my settings to perhaps get a different set of threads.

I am curious what the parameters are for deciding what is interesting to me. Places where I've already posted?

I really like it.  I don't have time to randomly go through all the threads; wish I did.  The emails give me something to target on.  Many times I find new interests I'd never heard of or considered.  That's good for my education and feeding my curiosity, but it can sure take me on new paths I don't have time for.  Isn't life grand.  More to do that we can ever do.  There is no excuse for being bored.

Hey permies FAMILY,
I saw on my most recent email a link to an interesting topic on "doubting". As I read through the various replies, I started to think of my own 2 cents I would like to add.
Then I got to the bottom and the reply option had been taken away. I admit there was one individual that needed to reply to "all", but after a couple of these I scrolled past.
On Facebook I see comments closed all the time, even on garden pages. Where is the cutoff number?
Don't you believe forums should get traffic?
493 people had visited the doubter's post, how many more of these people wanted to add their thoughts on "yay creation" or "time to have another flood"?
I have had posts land me in "you need to change your words" because someone was offended, I normally just delete my response. Forums deserve foot traffic and people's responses.
Respectfully yours FAMILY,
Mike

The feature is a good idea I just didn’t like the threads. I’ll go adjust my email preferences.

Great feature! I’ve obviously played with something somewhere this week, probably after the upgrades, and now it’s dropped in my inbox. (Just found it in email preferences under settings).

Love this feature.  I have too much going on to keep up with everything I'd like to, and this feature always shows me items of interest.  Thanks.

I think the idea to have interesting threads pointed out to members like this and ones pointed out by members in permies daily-is are a great way to point out what has been posted and get people to permies.com, This is my go to forum for my gardening and home resilience interests.

Thanks

If you think it is spam, then turn it off.  I see that you are signed up for the dailyish.

If you like, I can lock your account to make sure you don't get any more email from us.

Thank you, Michael

The daily-ish is one of my favorite things that I get in my email every day or every few days.

It seems to me almost like getting a friendly letter from a friend suggesting that I read this thread or that thread.  So many times that thread was one I have not seen.

Good move Paul-

First one of these emails I’ve gotten and I like it!  It’s a great idea, a good mix of topics and the community gets involved.

And…It beats the compost out of Social Media 🤣!!!

I have been getting "Interesting permies threads you might have missed" all along, but today's was different.  It included summaries of apples awarded + likes, and either I never noticed that before or it's a new thing.  Whichever, I like it!

Well, I cannot locate how to turn it off, but I object to a.full 12 days of involuntary unexpected servitude to a bot. I am presently dealing with issues on a.list if 2000 due to a v v v v few, having, not dial up, but a low speed connection or limited download w/o penalty.

After reading all these "loving it!" messages, I feel somehow spooked. Maybe it is, because most of the Permies are American and they are leading completely different lives.

I received this mail for the first time today. The title is promising.

Then it reads: "Here are the top 12 threads from the last 12 days  of the forums you think are best!"

Wait a moment - someone is tracking the threads I have been reading? I think I must have misunderstood the sentence. (read again) They know, which 12 threads I think are best? (read again) I don't really understand the sentence, but this is too much "BIG BROTHER watching every click you make".

You might be living in the land of the free, but here in Germany, social media are censoring everything the government dislikes. You write or say something they dislike: Your tweet, blog post, youtube video, etc. will be blocked. Your paypal account might be closed, if you're a publisher of a news blog, relying on reader's donations. The more coverage you have, the more dangerous it gets (e.g. police raiding your home).

Just like GDR in the 1980s.

So this is why the mail was so spooky to me. Forgive me for being a spoil sport. I really do assume good faith! Just wanted to tell you about my impressions after reading this mail.

For me it’s easy to ignore/not read the whole thread if there’s no spark. I like/find useful about 90-ish of the “interesting threads” I recieve

Hi, Leigh

I am sorry you feel there is no spark.

Unlike the Dailyish, the "Interesting permies threads you might have missed" are not written by a person.

Here are the top 12 threads from the last 12 days of the forums you think are best!

Better than the threads listed I like the feature that says:

We also want to thank you for actively making quality posts in our forum. Do you know that some folks have been interested in some of your awesome posts during the last 12 days?

Here are some of your posts which have been awarded most apples during that time:

What do you feel would make the "Interesting permies threads" better?

Got some of these years ago & liked the format.  Unfortunately, I must have missed something and they stopped.  With other things happening and not having the location to participate other than vicariously, I ended up forgetting to check Permies out regularly.   Glad to have gotten another one unasked and will attempt to update my profile or whatever it takes to get them regularly.  I am in the process of deleting some of the plethora of emails for topics I no longer have the ambition, stamina or memory cells to deal with so it will be nice to set Permies up for my diminished interests.
