Getting through winter can be tough on the homestead. I know I'm gonna be stuck inside for a long while once the weather gets really brutal in January.

That's why I've challenged myself to do at least one badge bit per week until winter is over.

I'm going to be sharing my SkIPing on Instagram Reels, and Tiktok with the hashtag #SkIPWinterChallenge. If you join me in posting your SkIP misadventures on social media, I'll get you access to this amazing SkIP/PEP tracker. Just post to this thread with a link to your SkIP post.

Not only that, but there's definitely enough time to get 20 badge bits, and anybody who gets BB20 can get a free ticket to the BB20 event at Wheaton Labs.

There are tons of indoor SkIPables, so I'm going to be highlighting a few of them each week to get you inspired, but feel free to flip through the lists and find whichever ones are most exciting to you!

community living

textiles

greywater and willow feeders

metalworking

plumbing and hot water

electricity (including solar)

commerce (be able to do business)

natural medicine

nest

homesteading

oddball

Choose one of these, or pick whatever you want. Don't matter to me.
Remember to include the hashtag #SkIPWinterChallenge when you post to socials, and be sure to share in this thread!

I am working on darning, too, Raphael! BB link: permies.com/wiki/152468/pep-textiles/Mend-darn-hole-sock-PEP#1736697

I hope to fit in 3 bbs a week for awhile. It keeps my hands busy, which is supposed to support mood in the winter, so why not?

Decided against sharpening a knife because I've been really unwell since last week, and was already knocking things over and falling all over the place before recording this haha.
Made a soup instead!

This week's suggestions:

- Clean a bathroom
- Create or stock a first aid kit
- Make a sturdy firewood rack

Here are my BBs for the SkIP Winter Challenge/Osoji:

Fridge cleaning: https://photos.app.goo.gl/i2AMVxgbp19GNJQy8

Oven cleaning: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mcEAuT7xdP2nZK9W8

Stew making: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8MSwJq2hBUhexssS7

Knife sharpening: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4ehM8rmG4owFsrPa6

Patching a sock: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4ehM8rmG4owFsrPa6

Oiling wooden utensils: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Yk2Ev4UioRTmbQeV9
I found more wooden kitchen things to oil afterwards.

Darning (a sweater): https://photos.app.goo.gl/kVBnQt5UpMeaqCRD8
Not what one usually thinks of for darning, but I wear that sweater alot...

Washing dishes by hand: https://photos.app.goo.gl/shDjjPaYpjsPf92v5
Getting a badge for doing dishes by hand, what I usually do feels GOOD!  Those are CLEAN dishes in the dishwasher. Yes, I use it as a drying rack. That is what the stereotypical Chinese person does.

Sweeping the floor: https://photos.app.goo.gl/LuMqhE1iX915rUEC6
The floor looked cleaner BEFORE I swept it, but now I know it is clean!

Cooking rice (stovetop):https://photos.app.goo.gl/kcQGfnEpNWkReQR67
The 3 things on top of the cooked rice are Chinese sausages. They were cooked with the rice...stacking functions!

Cooking a stir-fry:https://photos.app.goo.gl/6iCpyiMaobM5FeUt6
The rough recipe is:
1lb of ground beef
3 Chinese pork sausages
1cup corn
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
salt, pepper or other seasoning to taste

Great work, Monica! I hope you'll post them to the individual BB threads so you can get "official" credit for them. (For example, here is the thread to post sharpening a knife: https://permies.com/wiki/105867/pep-tool-care/Sharpen-knife-PEP-BB-tool)

It won't embed because it's a "short"

running behind on my challenge already, weather disasters and life disasters kicking my ass.

Will get everyone their badge trackers shortly!

Next challenges:

Perform some sort of labor over the internet and get paid at least $50
Make a woodburned sign
Fry an egg so it slides around on a cast iron skillet

My weekend rabbit processing.

I'm realising I'll probably always be slightly behind on this because of editing and posting things, so I'll just queue up next week's challenges now.

This week:
Sew a patch
Clean the shop
Fix a leaky faucet

Next week:
Crochet or knit a dishcloth
Carve a spoon
Clean an oily dish without soap
