Create 6 toad habitats - PEP BB animal.sand.toad

I think I have this one done.  I stacked a ton of functions as well.  I had a hollow maple and hollow cedar that could have made for a bit of firewood but instead I cut them into 2" thick wafers.  By putting them around baby plants, the chickens can't dig around them and hurt their roots.  Plus it gives the toads a place to hide from the chickens.  Win win win.  Some of the "before" pictures are a few years old.

Also, while installing t posts in the garden, I found two toads that were under my t post pile in the garden shed.  Oh no!  So I replaced the missing t posts with a hunk of 2x4 until the t posts return to their storage location.

Edit:  Added another one, a large disk of a tree near some leeks that the cut worms were destroying

I LOVE toads and frogs. And hedgehogs too (no, they are not reptiles or amphibians).
In my garden was already some habitat for them. But because of this BB I created more.

And I think my 'pond' (overgrown with mint) is frog and toad habitat too.

I didn't see a BB for hedgehog habitat. But I created that too.

I hope hedgehog likes this tiny house.

Good Afternoon All, below is just a small collection of toad habitat I have sitting around my farmlab.  

1.) This is a before and after of a small reused clay pot, it's placed inside one of the raised garden beds, behind this raised garden bed is a seasonal creek. A creek that is normally filled with tons of tadpoles.

2.) This location is where my fence meets one of my small barns near a gravel road, behind this fence is a compost mound. I often see toad crossing this gravel road in the evening.

3.) This location is in the middle of the farm lab, going downhill from the seasonal ponds/creek following the water flow,and then elevated towards a rock wall, this is at the end of the rock wall, but above the high water mark.

4.) This location is on the edge of a overflow pond where I've been building up the bank to hold more water, often the area behind this is full of water

5.) This location is just in the small patch of woods that makes up an edge on both sides, normally undistributed

6.)This area is near one of my water stations, and under our pear tree, this is a crossing path from, a pond, to a more wetland area, lots of open space so I thought a small hide out would be good here.

7.)This location is near where I had to repair a fence and had to clean out the biology that was living here, now i'm hoping to attract most of it back, rock and old wood shelter

Repurposing 6 unused pots to serve as toad abodes throughout the yard and gardens.

I picked six quiet locations, mostly tucked at the back behind my raised beds. I also picked areas that out of direct sun and retain moisture the longest. Here are my six before and after shots.

Any plants for toads? I'm looking for ones to provide shelter and breeding as well as resting. I've tried with just rock piles, but found only garter snake and field mouse. Any native plants in mind for the eastern U.S?

So for this tasker I was really lucky. My house has a lot of spots that are opportunistic for our amphibian friends AND the previous homeowners left tons of smaller paver blocks behind. Win win!

I've occasionally seen a toad here and there but not as much in my garden. I'm happy I have found this badge bit that nudged me to build those little buggers some shelters.

We have a lot of rocks, so my top choice for building toad apartments were long flatish rocks.

Today I made some toad habitats. We see toads relatively often, they like hiding in small places in the  garden and under our leaky hose.

Very good pictures! I like the crevices for toads. Could we use hibernaculum to reel in toads and other creatures? I wanna create shelters that are similar to the ones out in the wild. Good seeing ya!

Built toad habbits today using terracotta pots, bricks, shells, wood and stones.

For this BB I did create 'toad habitats' (see here: link) The toads did not seem to like them. I think the upside-down pots were too open (for wind and light), or too hot on summer days, or too exposed with not much plant growth around them. But there's one spot, created later (last year) where at least one big toad now lives! It is under some old roof tiles next to my 'water garden'.
Probably this is what toads like:
- a dark spot
- with soil under and plants as neighbours
- fairly wet

you see the old watering can under the rain pipe? The 'water garden is there, and the old roof tiles too. I know the toad is there too (but I won't disturb it again to show it in a photo).

I think Iv now made like 20 toad habitats but keep forgetting to take pictures of the before. I dont generally keep my phone on me and just get into a groove and then realize later that I never took pictures as proof! So these are over this year and last year as I upkeep gardens and weed.
